Sodium Nickel Battery

  • Requires zero external cooling.
  • Chemically incapable of fire.
  • 100% recyclable, zero toxic waste.

The Industrial-Grade Energy Storage

At Minsaram Energy, we aim to power our hybrid microgrids with Sodium-Nickel Chloride (NaNiCl2)technology. Often referred to as "salt batteries," this solid-state, high-temperature chemistry is the ultimate industrial workhorse. It is engineered specifically for mission-critical, heavy-industrial applications where failure is not an option.

1. Thermal Immunity: The End of the "Cooling Tax"

The major hidden cost of legacy battery systems is the HVAC requirement. Standard batteries must be kept at room temperature, meaning that on a 50°C day, up to 20% of your generated power is wasted running air conditioning for the battery enclosures.

Our Sodium-Nickel Chloride batteries completely eliminate this parasitic load. Because the battery utilises a molten salt electrolyte that operates internally at roughly 300°C, it is fundamentally immune to external weather conditions. Whether the ambient temperature outside the container is a freezing desert night or a scorching summer afternoon, the battery requires zero external cooling to operate at peak efficiency.

2. Absolute Safety: Zero Risk of Thermal Runaway

Strict WHS regulations from the mining sector, requires stringent fire protection systems for battery systems. Generally, traditional batteries use highly flammable liquid electrolytes, if compromised, can trigger violent, uncontrollable thermal runaway.

Our battery  technology provides absolute safety. It utilises a non-flammable solid ceramic separator (Beta-alumina) and an inert salt chemistry. It is chemically incapable of thermal runaway or catching fire. In the highly unlikely event of severe physical damage to the module, the internal materials simply cool down and freeze into a solid, inert block of salt and metal. It does not vent explosive gases, ensuring the total safety of your site personnel and emergency responders.

3. Built for the Life of Mine

Mine sites demand are relentless and our Sodium-Nickel Chloride battery  is designed for continuous, deep-discharge industrial cycles. It can be fully discharged to zero volts without suffering any structural degradation or loss of capacity. Backed by rigorous integration and containerization from our local WA partners, these systems are built to deliver a 15-to-20-year operational lifespan, perfectly aligning with your long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Life of Mine projections.

4. Clean Supply Chain and Decommissioning

Our batteries contain zero conflict minerals, no cobalt, and no toxic heavy metals. They are constructed entirely from earth-abundant, common materials: nickel, iron, standard steel, and sodium chloride.

Because the battery becomes a chemically inert block of metal and salt the moment it is powered down, it is completely safe to transport at the end of its life. It plugs directly into existing global smelting supply chains, where the core metals are recovered and sold directly back into the stainless steel industry. This allows neutralising some aspects of site-rehabilitation costs typically associated with off-grid power plant decommissioning.

Standard consumer-grade chemistries, like lithium-ion, require massive energy to stay cool, present severe fire risks, and introduce complex end-of-life liabilities.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency is actively funding alternative, high-temp battery chemistries, citing the urgent need for rugged systems that do not degrade in extreme heat.
